Official medical service
The Office of Public Health's medical service has a wide range of responsibilities in the area of communicable and non-communicable diseases and health risks. These include topics such as:
- Infection protection(information on infectious diseases and vaccinations for the general public and professionals)
- Addiction treatment (information and documentation on narcotic-assisted treatment)
- Cancer Registry(information on data collection, legal basis, privacy, and published data)

Remedy
The term therapeutic products includes pharmaceuticalsas well as Medical Devices and In Vitro Diagnostics.
Medicinal products may only be marketed in Liechtenstein if their efficacy and safety have been proven and verified. With one exception, Liechtenstein automatically allows on its market medicines approved by Swissmedic, the Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products.
Medical device means an instrument, apparatus, appliance, software, implant, reagent, material or other article that, according to the manufacturer, is intended for human use and that, alone or in combination, fulfills one or more specific medical purposes.
Medical devices and in vitro diagnostic (IVD) devices may be placed on the market, made available or put into service in Liechtenstein under EEA law if they comply with the provisions of the prescribed legal acts.

Radiation protection
The Office of Public Health is responsible for licensing and oversight in radiation protectionin medicine, research, and educational institutions.
In the event of an incident that may result in exposure to radioactive iodine, the Office of Public Health ensures the supply of the population with potassium-iodide tablets secure.

Health Professions
The health professions practiced in Liechtenstein are governed by the provisions of the Health and Medical Act with the associated ordinances. The application for a professional license must be submitted in writing to the Office of Public Health.

Health promotion and prevention
Health Promotion and Prevention advocates for the health of the public. Our health is a valuable asset. Health promotion and prevention supports individuals in their efforts to lead healthy lifestyles. The Office of Public Health works with external experts, committees and associations in close cooperation and in various projects to influence behavior as well as conditions in a way that promotes health at various levels. In addition, through prevention, measures are implemented to prevent, detect early or delay diseases. The result is a healthy life, a higher quality of life and increased performance.

International
The national social security systems of the Member States of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland are coordinated among themselves. Liechtenstein applies the Regulation on the Coordination of Social Security Systems No. 883/2004 with respect to the EU and EEA Member States and the EFTA Agreement (Annex K of the Vaduz Convention) with respect to Switzerland.
