Required documents
The Liechtenstein Civil Registry Office is responsible for marriages. At the earliest 6 months and at the latest 3 weeks before the planned marriage date, the required documents must be submitted there in the original. Please make an appointment with the Liechtenstein Civil Registry Office (+423) 236 69 26 or (+423) 236 69 27 to make the pronouncement.
Depending on citizenship and civil status, very different documents are required. Basically, there is a distinction in this regard between:
Liechtenstein citizens
Liechtenstein citizens need the following document in original for the preparation of the marriage ceremony:
- Confirmation of residence from the municipality
EU / EEA citizens
Please inquire at an early stage at the Liechtenstein Civil Registry Office what documents are required. Depending on the home country and civil status, very different documents are required.
Documents required by citizens of the EU or EEA must not be older than 6 months. Documents that are not in German or English must be translated into German by a recognized translation agency.
Swiss citizens
Please inquire at an early stage at the Liechtenstein Civil Registry Office what documents are required.
Third-country nationals
The documents required for foreign bridal couples vary greatly depending on the home country and civil status. Please check with the Liechtenstein Civil Registry Office at an early stage to find out what documents are required.
The foreign documents must not be older than 6 months. Documents that are not in German or English must be translated into German by a recognized translation agency.
Third-country nationals must make a promise of marriage at the Swiss representation abroad, so that the Liechtenstein Civil Registry Office receives all documents for the preparation of the marriage from the corresponding Swiss consulate or embassy. Please be sure to contact the Liechtenstein Civil Registry Office in advance for the exact details so that there are no unnecessary delays.
Entry regulations
Switzerland and Liechtenstein have the same entry regulations. The regulations on persons requiring visas are consistent (see Ordinance of 14 January 1998 on the Entry and Registration of Foreign Nationals, SR 142.211). In principle, the passport obligation exists on the basis of this ordinance. Deviating regulations based on bilateral or multilateral agreements remain reserved.
Visa requirement
Persons subject to visa requirements may submit an application for a visa to the Swiss representation at their place of residence abroad. The decision on the application rests with the Swiss authorities. Whether a visa is required can be found on the Internet at https://www.eda.admin.ch/eda/de/home/vertretungen-und-reisehinweise/laenderunabhaengigereiseinformationen/visum-einreise.html
The required documents must be submitted in person to the Liechtenstein Civil Registry Office:
