Universal service
Functioning postal services are an important prerequisite for the quality of life of the population, for national cohesion and for the attractiveness of Liechtenstein as a business location. For this reason, the Government aims to ensure the nationwide provision of a general service of high quality that is accessible to and affordable for the entire population.
It is particularly important to maintain universal service coverage, i.e. the nationwide provision of postal services, also in a fully liberalised market. The universal service must be available nationwide, permanently and in a certain quality at affordable prices. It must be ensured that the density of collection and access points meets the needs of users and that home delivery is guaranteed at least five days a week. In this context, the use of certain technologies is neither required nor favoured (principle of technology neutrality).
Liechtensteinische Post AG is designated ex lege as a universal service provider.
