Forest and wood
Liechtenstein is a forest country
With an area of 6,865 hectares, the Liechtenstein forest covers about 43% of the total land area. It thus not only represents one of the most essential landscape elements, but on the steeply sloping slopes of the Three Sisters Massif and in the Alpine region it also assumes important tasks in protecting the settlement area from natural hazards.

Forestry organization
The Forest and Landscape Division of the Office for the Environment is the supreme supervisory body for all forests in the country and is responsible for the enforcement of the Forest Act. The active services provided by the Forest and Landscape Division include support for the municipalities as forest owners in forest maintenance, the construction of suitable infrastructure for forest management, and nature conservation tasks in the forest.
Management
The management of our forests is carried out according to the principles of near-natural silviculture. The goal is healthy, species-rich, and structurally rich stands with location-appropriate tree species that can sustainably take on a variety of tasks. The legal framework for this is set by the Liechtenstein Forest Act.
